Okay, let's start with intros. Hi I am Anonymous. Please call me Risako. I am a critic and if you want, you can like, somehow contact me and tell me what you want me to critic. If i can at least. I am still a student, so no adult things.
Anyway, Rise of the Guardians. Yes I am talking about the recent movie.
Frankly, I find this story pretty interesting. The art is amazing, I actually heard from my family that
girls are only going there to watch Jack Frost (who they think is hot). Could just be my family though. Anyway, I do agree with that point though. They are very well drawn and I believe my sister is falling for a 2-D character... Weird.
The story itself is also pretty interesting. For one, the backstory of Jack is pretty dark.
SPOILER TIME
Jack is actually a normal boy who was a joker. He played arond, never serious about anything. The day he died, he actually brough his sister(I think) to a frozen ice-pond. However the ice was too thin and the girl was stuck in the middle of the pond with the ice cracking beneath her. So, Jack tries to reassure her by telling her to think of it as a game of hopscotch. She does that and as soon as she gets close enough, he pulls her to safety using her stick. However, he was in turn pushed to the cracking ice and falls into the icy cold water to his death and then the man in the moon turn him into Frost.
Now the movie then skips over that as it is primarily a kid's show. However should we actually think of the little girl, what do you think she feels? Her brother died in front of her! So she would actually feel that it is her fault, or she would be so traumatised she would develop some phychological thing. You have seen in other movies, no? Some girl sees her parents die in front of her then they reappear in front of her saying its her fault or something? Well, then she would blame herself and if she cannot handle it, do something she would rather forget.
Another one would be when Pitch loses. Okay, the good guys win, the bad ones lose. But what actually happens is that Pitch gets attacked by his own element (i.e. Fear) and dragged into some hole. This is dark in its own way and actuall, despite all he has done, he still doesn't deserve it.
SPOILER END
The story is actually so-so. What could have made it better would be more interaction between Pitch and Frost, seeing as which both know the feeling of not being believed in and how much it hurts. I would have like to see more of Pitch trying to get Frost to his side. To remind Frost of how much it hurt to be unbelieved, forgotten even. The writers can even bring out a darker side of Frost, make him feel jealous to the main guardians because he was forgotten and they were widely believed in. But that might make it darker than what a children's film is.
Out of five stars each,
Art- 4/5
Story-3/5
Overall- 3.5/5
But I still think that it was good, so I recommend you to check it out.
